Study on Emotional Disturbances in Korean Children

Abstract
The author studied disturbances in adjustment and habit, and conduct disorder in emotional disturbances among 38, 001 (boys 20,036, girls 17, 965) primary school children in Busan, Korea, and the results obtained from the study were summarized as follows:
1. Problem of poor school performance was the highest incidence. Next frequent incidence was conduct disorders, speech problems, eating problems, habits problems and sleeping problems in that order.
2. Comparing incidences between boys and girls, boys showed two times incidence in problems of speech and three times incidences in conduct disorders.
3. As the classes progressed in school, incidences of mutism and thumb sucking were diminished, while incidence of nail biting was increased.
4. In incidence of stuttering, boys showed four times higher than girls.
5. In conduct disorders, lying showed the highest incidence and next is stealing.
6. As the classes progressed in school, incidences were diminished in problem of school performance and speech, conduct disorder and sleeping problems did not show any changes in their incidences, and incidences were increased in problems of habits and eating.
